Well-known as the City of a Thousand Fountains, Aix-en-Provence (or Aix) is a small city in southern France, situated about 30km (20miles) north of Marseille. Famous for its superb preservation of architecture and a birthplace of a French painter Cézanne. The TGV (high-speed train) station has brought many visitors to the town, making it a popular tourist destination. It is a sub-prefecture in the Bouches-du-Rhone department of the Provence.
Aix is a wealthy city with tree-lined narrow streets, old buildings and palaces. Built and developed around art and culture, Aix is a starting point for visitors to explore many places of interest, all within an hour's drive.
Aix is home to several art schools, French-language schools and universities that include some American universities also.
